Breakfast Potatoes In Air Fryer

Here in the UK air fryer breakfast potatoes are not really a thing. Instead, we love air fryer sausages and bacon and making them into delicious sandwiches using air fryer part baked bread. Or we love an air fryer English breakfast or just to air fry black pudding or up in Scotland some air fryer haggis.

Yet, it was on a trip to the US during the summer of 2012 that I first tried air fryer breakfast potatoes and fell in love with the concept. The idea of delicious crispy cubed potatoes with bacon and sometimes with peppers and onions too. In wraps with scrambled eggs or sometimes on their own.

I just thought they were amazing, and when we got our air fryer later that same year, breakfast potatoes soon became a thing.

But a modern twist now is to make your breakfast staples and have them for dinner instead.

Breakfast potatoes make an amazing dinner side, and you can add in extra ingredients and they work well with so many different types of potatoes.

Personally, we love to use air fryer baby potatoes and then chop them into half and then into quarters and they are so delicious.

Today, I wanted to share with you all about breakfast potatoes in air fryer, how to make them, how long to cook breakfast potatoes in air fryer and so much more.

Beyond our air fryer breakfast potatoes here are a few other air fryer potato favourites…. Air fryer potato peelings, air fryer canned potatoes, air fryer chips, air fryer sliced potatoes and I love air fryer jacket potatoes.

Why Do You Soak Potatoes In Water Before Air Frying?

There is no need to soak potatoes before air frying, unless you have potatoes that are excessively dry.

The reason why people soak potatoes in water before air frying is to remove the starch but when we have experimented the potatoes in the air fryer have been better when not soaked.

Why Are My Air Fried Potatoes Soggy?

The biggest reason why the potatoes are soggy, is because of extra moisture. This happens a lot with air fryer frozen French fries, or when you have soaked potatoes before air frying them.

The problem is when soaked before air frying, they end up much wetter, and then you have air fried potatoes that are soggy.

Is Air Frying Potatoes Faster Than Baking?

Yes, air frying potatoes is much faster than baking them in the oven. For example, air fryer jacket potatoes take approximately half the time of oven baking. The same applies to cubed potatoes like when we air fry breakfast potatoes.

Why Wont My Potatoes Cook In The Air Fryer?

The air fryer cooking method for potatoes (as mentioned in the complete air fryer cookbook) is to cook at a lower temperature first, and then increasing the temperature. This creates delicious potatoes that are perfectly cooked.

If your potatoes are not cooked it’s because they need longer in the air fryer.

Ninja Foodi Breakfast Potatoes

Potatoes – You can use any potatoes and then chop them into small chunks. But we love to use baby potatoes the most and always have some in, for air frying.

Bacon – For the add ins we love our breakfast potatoes in the air fryer with some sliced bacon. We love back bacon here in the UK, but any bacon will do, or you can use bacon bits.

Extras – Or beyond the bacon you can make air fryer breakfast potatoes with onions and peppers. For this I recommend a small red pepper, and ¼ of an onion. Diced and then added in at the same time as the bacon.

Oil – Then for oiling your potatoes we highly recommend extra virgin olive oil. It’s the best for the air fryer and the potatoes are so delicious.

Seasoning – You can mix and match the seasoning but what we find works well is two tablespoons of dried herbs/spices so you can mix this up with your favourite flavours.

Can You Recommend An Air Fryer?

I often get asked which air fryers I recommend and which one I use. In 95% of our air fryer recipes, we use either the Philips Air Fryer XL or the Cosori XL because they are the best ones, we have found out of many air fryers we have tried over the years. You can click on the links above and read up on them.

Plus, we recommend you head over to our air fryer recipes category as we have more than 500 tried and tested everyday air fryer recipes and have been air frying for 10+ years.

How To Make Breakfast Potatoes In Air Fryer?

air-fryer-breakfast-potatoes-step-by-step
  • Prep. Start by dicing your potatoes into small, cubed potatoes. Place the potatoes into a mixing bowl and add olive oil and seasonings. Mix well with your hands before tipping the potatoes into the air fryer basket.
  • Cook. Then spread the potatoes out in the air fryer basket and air fry for 20 minutes at 180c/360f.
  • Bacon. Whilst the air fryer is cooking the potatoes slice the bacon into bacon bits or medium chunks depending on how you like your bacon.
  • Crisp. When the air fryer beeps add the bacon on top and air fry for 12 minutes at the same temperature to crisp up the bacon.
  • Shake. Then shake the air fryer and serve or if you prefer your air fried breakfast potatoes crispier then you can add 5 more minutes of cook time.

And that is how easy air fryer breakfast potatoes are to make.

How Long To Cook Breakfast Potatoes In Air Fryer?

Air frying breakfast potatoes takes JUST 20 minutes to cook crispy breakfast potatoes or to transform them into breakfast potatoes with bacon, will require another 12 minutes.

Of course, we made breakfast potatoes for 4 of us, so if you need a smaller portion the cook time will be less.

Russet Breakfast Potatoes Air Fryer

You can also make air fried breakfast potatoes with russet potatoes, I just say go with what potatoes you have in, and don’t just buy in specialist potatoes just for this recipe.

Air Fryer Potatoes & Onions

If you wanted to swap the bacon for onions, then you can and make delicious air fryer potatoes and onions instead.

Onions don’t take as long to cook though, compared to crispy air fryer bacon. Therefore we recommend adding the onion for the last 8 minutes of the cook time.

This came out great! I didn’t put a whole onion in because I thought it would be too much but will use the whole one next time. Also have to cut it and the bacon large enough that it doesn’t fall through the grates as they cook. Delish!!

Made them this morning. Didn’t have much onion, so added a little onion powder, too. Added a little garlic powder. Cooked a little longer. Also had regular bacon in chunks. Stirred half way thru. Added a little shredded cheese in last couple minutes. Very yummy! Definitely will make again and again.
