I always remember getting chicken drumsticks with my aunts and my mum from Marks & Spencers and then sitting there in silence while we finished the packet.

They were heavenly, and it was not just because they were chicken drumsticks and that chicken drumsticks are the BUSINESS but because of the sticky coating.

But just like any other pre-prepared chicken drumsticks pack, you’re always paying a premium for them because they are ready to eat food.

When in fact it takes a minute to prepare chicken drumsticks yourself and then you can just cook them in your Air Fryer.

When we made these sticky air fryer chicken drumsticks we did so on a shoestring budget.

We weren’t trying to save money at the time, it was just a great way to enjoy chicken drumsticks and it was so quick for a speedy lunch for the 2 of us.

We are addicted to chopping up our chickens before we cook them.

That is because they are cheap and sometimes we want just the breast and many times one whole chicken can then do a couple of meals.

But what happened is that we ended up with a surplus of chicken drumsticks in our fridge because we had used everything else in other air fryer chicken recipes.

We were left with 4 medium sized chicken drumsticks and when you divide up the costs it was 1/3 of 2 whole chickens.

When each whole chicken from the supermarket cost us 1,75€ on clearance, this was just 1,16€ for the air fryer chicken drumsticks and everything else used was items that were just sat there in our pantry.

Such as our favourite honey, French mustard, garlic puree and a little olive oil.

We worked it out and in total our air fryer chicken drumsticks worked out at just 24 cents for the marinade and 1,16€ for the chicken drumsticks = 1,40€ ($1.68).

Now this truly amazing compared to how much you spend in the supermarket for a pre-cooked pack!

I forgot to mention….these delicious sticky air fryer chicken drumsticks are both gluten free and Paleo. I mean what is the chances that something that tastes that bad for you could be PALEO?

Just get out your air fryer, insert your grill pan, marinade your chicken drumsticks and then air fry them. It really is that easy. Then to keep them frugal serve them with some air fryer fries and some coleslaw.

Ingredients

• Air Fryer
• Air Fryer Grill Pan
• 4 Chicken Drumsticks
• 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
• 2 Tsp Honey
• 1 Tsp Mustard
• 1 Tsp Garlic Puree
• Salt & Pepper

Metric – Imperial

Instructions

• Place all the ingredients apart from the chicken drumsticks in a bowl and mix well.
• Add the chicken and keep tossing it in the marinade so that the chicken drumsticks are well coated.
• Place the chicken drumsticks (top to tail) in the air fryer grill pan and cook for 13 minutes at 175c/347f.
• Serve.

Notes

This sticky air fryer chicken drumsticks recipe doesn’t work well with shaking it in zip loc bags. This is because the honey needs mixing with a spoon otherwise you end up with honey lumps. You can replace honey with maple syrup if you prefer.
