Let me show you how easy it is to air fry the Spanish classic churros. You will love frozen churros in air fryer and even better with a chocolate dipping sauce.
You can also follow this method for the Portuguese classic farturas or any other similar sweet treats.

Frozen Churros
My love for churros began many, many years ago, around my teenage years. I spent Christmas aged 13, 14, and 15 on holiday in Spain and loved a walk about on my own and to walk the seafront with a warm churro in my hand and usually some chocolate dipping sauce.
Then years later living in Portugal there would always be a street trader selling churros by the beach or the Portuguese equivalent of farturas.
But fresh homemade churros are not great for the air fryer. So instead on one of many trips to Spain we brought across the border (back into Portugal) frozen churros. We then took them home and air fried from frozen.
They were delicious but we had a more powerful air fryer at the time and we overcooked them. And without being able to go back out and get more, we didn’t have anymore for a long time.
Since then, I have been on a mission to find some frozen churros for the air fryer and finally got some. Though we could have had some sooner, but all had hazelnut sauce and with our nut allergy not an option.
These frozen churros are our updated post, and we hope you find some good ones that you can also air fry from frozen.

Farturas Vs Churros
Portuguese farturas and Spanish churros are very similar, so it’s no surprise that many holidaymakers get them confused. If you’ve ever been on holiday in Portugal, you’ve probably noticed that both are often sold side by side, freshly deep-fried and coated in a generous sprinkling of cinnamon sugar.
Although they share many similarities, there are a few key differences between Portuguese farturas and Spanish churros.
Both are popular types of fried dough, but Portuguese farturas are usually much larger and are often shaped like a long tube, similar to a cannelloni. They’re commonly filled with delicious sweet fillings such as jam, custard or cream.
In contrast, Spanish churros are traditionally thinner and often shaped into a U or loop. However, straight churros have become increasingly popular too, especially at beach cafés, fairs and street food stalls across Spain.
For example, these are the straight Spanish churros that Sofia bought from a beachside stall in Spain:

Are Churros Mexican Or Spanish?
If you’ve ever wondered, are churros Mexican or Spanish? The answer is Spanish.
Churros originated in Spain before becoming popular in Portugal. As Spanish culture spread across the world, churros also became a favourite in many Spanish-speaking countries, including Mexico.
Because so many visitors enjoy churros on trips to Mexico, especially travellers from the United States, it’s easy to assume they’re a Mexican dessert. However, their origins can be traced back to Spain.
Can You Air Fry Churros?
Yes, you can air fry churros, and it’s one of our favourite ways to cook them.
We especially recommend air frying frozen churros because there’s no need to make the dough from scratch or deal with messy batter. Simply take as many frozen churros as you need from the freezer, place them in the air fryer, and let it do all the hard work.
It’s a quick, easy and fuss-free way to enjoy perfectly crispy churros at home.
Where To Buy Frozen Churros
If you’re wondering where to buy frozen churros, there are plenty of great options.
It actually took me three years to find the perfect frozen churros, mainly because I was looking for a nut-free chocolate sauce to go with them. Thankfully, they’re much easier to find these days.
If you’re in the United States, Costco frozen churros are a popular choice, and many of our readers tell us they’re ideal for cooking in the air fryer. Sam’s Club churros are another great option.
For those of us in the UK, you’ll often find frozen churros in supermarkets such as Aldi, Tesco and Iceland, making it easy to keep a pack in the freezer whenever a churro craving strikes.
Best Way To Reheat Churros
The best way to reheat churros is in the air fryer.
Reheating churros in an air fryer brings back their delicious crisp exterior while keeping the inside soft and fluffy. Unlike the microwave, the air fryer helps prevent them from becoming soggy.
Even better, if you’re serving them with chocolate sauce, you can warm that at the same time, making it a quick and easy dessert that’s ready in just a few minutes.
