Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Bites is an update of my air fryer mini kievs recipe that I originally published on the blog back in 2016.

Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Bites

My mum used to have my dinner waiting for me when I got home from school.

There were the cans of macaroni cheese, the cans of spaghetti Bolognese, the cheap meatballs that looked like dog food and of course the cans of soup.

But what I looked forward to the most was the mini kievs by Bernard Matthews. This was like heaven on a plate and so delicious. Then with anything that is a treat you really look forward to it.

The reason it was usually a treat was because you only got two portions worth in a bag and with the garlic cheesy centre many people considered it to be unhealthy.

Here is the bag I am talking about:

Even though many associated them with chicken they were actually turkey. But other brands also sold them with chicken. Either way, they tasted absolutely delicious.

Now living out in Portugal it is double in price, I am assuming due to export costs and with us rarely having processed foods I must not have bought any for at least 3 years.

But I miss my frozen chicken bites and I wanted to try them out in the air fryer and see if they are as good as I remember.

Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Bites Vs Popcorn Chicken

I wondered and wondered what to call these frozen chicken bites as I put them into the air fryer.

In England they would be referred to as frozen mini kievs. That is because they are similar to the Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Kiev, just a miniature version.

However, when I think of a chicken ball in breadcrumbs I will automatically call the big ones chicken bites and the small ones popcorn chicken.

Whatever you call your air fryer frozen chicken bites, just note that either type cooks for the same amount of time and at the same temperature in the air fryer and that you can simply buy your favourite brand of air fryer frozen chicken bites.

Why Air Fry Chicken Bites?

Can I start with the delicious crispy coating of the chicken bites? It is so good and crunchy you will not want to stop eating them until you are overfull.

Then there is the centre.

If you have bought some frozen chicken bites with a filling, then even better. The filling sneaks out a little and you end up with this amazing taste sensation. Ours had a cheesy garlic sauce and I just wanted to mop up all the sauce.

You can see how it has sneaked out a little in this photo:

Even better in the air fryer basket you can easily cook 2 full bags of them at once, without feeling like your air fryer frozen chicken bites have been overcrowded too much.

How To Cook Frozen Chicken Bites In The Air Fryer?

Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Bites step by step

When you cook air fryer frozen chicken bites it is so simple. You need to first remove any excess crumbs from the bag as this will make the difference between okay chicken bites and amazing chicken bites.

The excess crumbs stick to the air fryer basket and will cause your frozen chicken bites to stick together and make an awful mess in your air fryer.

Once you have removed the extra crumbs place your frozen chicken bites into your air fryer basket.

Set the time and temp to 180c/360f for 10 minutes.

Then when it beeps your air fryer frozen chicken bites are ready to eat.

Though it is important that you don’t cook your frozen chicken bites at a higher temperature as they will dry out and taste awful.
