Air Fryer Coconut Shrimp

Welcome to my Air Fryer coconut shrimp recipe. This is an updated version of our air fryer coconut shrimp that we originally shared back in the summer of 2017.

When I go to the Chinese buffet there are certain foods that are an absolute MUST that you MUST EAT whenever you go.

My true favourites always seem to include prawns. Which is what us Europeans call shrimp.

There will be prawn toast, prawns cooked in soy sauce and my favourite love is the prawns battered and served in an unhealthy sauce.

But what if you could cook your favourite frozen coconut shrimp in the air fryer instead, that would taste even better than at the Chinese and be a lot cheaper too?

Well that is what todays air fryer frozen coconut shrimp. Cooked in the Philips Air Fryer (did I ever mention this the best kitchen gadget ever!).

We have amazing coconut shrimp that is so crispy on the outside you would think it had been deep fried.

Plus, the worst thing about the Chinese buffet is that the food has gone cold and dry. Yet its coming out of the air fryer and straight onto your plate.

So, let’s have a big fat breaded coconut shrimp feast and get excited about frozen food in the air fryer!

Can You Air Fry Coconut Shrimp?

Though the first question I normally get asked is “can you air fry coconut shrimp?” Well the answer is a big fat YES.

Coconut shrimp is amazing in the air fryer because the air fryer cooks coconut shrimp so perfectly.

You can reduce the calories because you are not deep fat frying your coconut shrimp and you don’t need any oil whatsoever.

As long as you don’t overcrowd the air fryer, which will result in your coconut shrimp sticking together, then coconut shrimp the air fryer way is the BEST.

What Ingredients & Gadgets Go Into Air Fryer Frozen Coconut Shrimp?

There is not much to cooking air fryer coconut shrimp from frozen in the air fryer.

It is a case of choosing your favourite brand of frozen coconut shrimp and a good quality air fryer.

I recommend the Philips Air Fryer XL as it is perfect size for cooking coconut shrimp and it’s amazing how much coconut shrimp you can cook at once without an overcrowding issue.

I also recommend a good shrimp sauce to go with your frozen shrimp. My favourite shrimp dipping sauces include:

But it is all about personal choice. The brand of coconut shrimp we bought came with their own dipping sauce. So, you might not need to buy any.

Air Fryer Frozen Coconut Shrimp is EASY. In fact, it is so easy you will be wondering why you didn’t cook coconut shrimp in the air fryer years ago.

To cook coconut shrimp from frozen in the air fryer you:

  • Load the frozen coconut shrimp into the air fryer while still frozen but without any packaging.
  • Cook for 8 minutes at 180c/360f then prick a cocktail into the fattest part and if its hot to touch they are done.

This will of course vary depending on the size of your air fryer frozen shrimp. For example, extend the cooking time to 10 minutes if you are cooking frozen jumbo shrimp.

Or knock the time down to 6 minutes if it is British breaded prawns as they tend to be much smaller.

Reheat Coconut Shrimp In Air Fryer

To reheat coconut shrimp in your air fryer. Load them into the air fryer basket and cook for 4 minutes at 160c/320f.

Its important that you don’t cook them at a higher temperature as it will cook your coconut shrimp again rather than reheating them.

This is perfect for following if you have spare coconut shrimp leftover. Or like us if you have been to the Chinese and brought your leftovers home with you.
