Air Fryer Frozen McCain Oven Chips
Growing up I always had my fair share of McCain oven chips. They would be paired with Birdseye Fish Fingers and served up with baked beans.
It was a heavily processed 90’s dinner for kids but was not very high in calories.
This was mainly down to the fact that McCain Oven Chips are very low in calorie and it’s a little oil with some basic white potatoes.
There are no foods in the ingredients list that you can’t pronounce and is great for feeding kids in a hurry.
But I have a big complaint about McCain frozen oven chips and that is that they tasted low in calories.
You had the oven chips for your dinner and just wished that they were deep fried. There was no crunch to your oven chips, and it left you craving food from the deep fat fryer.
Fast forward 25 years and I was shopping for some frozen food at my local Iceland here in Portugal.
I saw the McCain oven chips and thought it would be interesting to see how they turned out in the air fryer and if it was any better than what you get baked in the oven.

YES, you can. I love oven chips in the air fryer and consider it to be the best way to cook oven chips.
Oven chips cooked in the oven can often be boring, however, thanks to the air fryer, you can bring a whole new life to oven chips and make them taste so much better.

I have tried many oven chips and even tried a different brand in our air fryer oven chips video.
But it always comes back to McCain oven chips. They are the best and no other brand of oven chips comes even a little bit close.
McCain Oven Chips In Air Fryer
When my frozen McCain Oven Chips were cooking for the first time in the air fryer, I was full of anticipation. I wanted to know what they would be like, if they were something I would eat regularly and most of all whether or not they would taste naughty.
Would they taste as good as deep-fried chips, or would they still shout out OVEN BAKED?
As it turned out the McCain Oven Chips tasted AMAZING and you couldn’t tell the difference between these oven chips and chips from a restaurant that have been deep fried.
They were so good, that I couldn’t wait for the final photo and as you can see, they have reduced in size by a LOT:
How Many Calories In Oven Chips?
The biggest shock when you look at the calories in McCain Oven Chips is how low in calories they are. Just 132 calories per 100g of oven chips.
We shared a big bag of 750g of oven chips between 4 of us and this worked out at JUST 247 calories each.
The ingredients for McCain Oven Chips are just a small amount of sunflower oil and white potatoes, so no worse than any other portion of chips that you cook in the air fryer, but no prep to do on your end.
How To Cook Air Fryer Frozen Oven Chips?
This is how easy it is to cook frozen oven chips in the air fryer:
- Load frozen oven chips into the air fryer.
- Air fry.
- Serve.
As you can see, just as easy as deep frying oven chips, just without the high calories.
How Long To Cook Frozen Chips In Air Fryer?
Frozen oven chips in the air fryer take JUST 10 minutes. This is from throwing into the air fryer completely frozen, to eating them on your dinner plate.
I also find that frozen oven chips are not full of as much fat as other frozen chips making them the best choice for the air fryer.

Instructions
- Place the air fryer frozen McCain oven chips into the bottom of the air fryer basket.
- Cook for 10 minutes at 200c/400f.
- Shake halfway through to avoid sticking.
- Serve warm with dipping sauce.

Not all oven chips are the same, as i like Mcains finding the same ones was tricky but so gad i came across your website, these were delicious and will be cooking them a lot more and your website will take my kitchen gadget cooking to another level.
These tasted amazing done in the air fryer, i never thought i could use them so now it does not matter which type of frozen fries, if i pick up the wrong type just throw them in the air fryer thanks.
