Frozen Chips In Air Fryer

For dinner as a 90’s kid after school there was usually a can of something or other, warmed up in the microwave and then with a little cheese melted on top. I remember cans of macaroni cheese, spaghetti Bolognese and the cans of meatballs.

But what really impressed me was when the frozen chips came out. They would be cooked in the oven to save on calories and if frozen chips were about, then frozen fish fingers wouldn’t be far away and it was a great 90’s dinner, well the BEST!

My 90’s childhood has stayed with me and now I love either air fryer frozen fish fingers or air fryer frozen chips.

Today, I am going to be showing you how to cook frozen chips in the air fryer and just childhood keep the calories down.

There is no deep frying but instead air frying and using the lower calorie version of oven chips.

Can You Cook Frozen Chips In An Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook frozen chips in the air fryer. In fact, you can cook any brand of frozen chips using an air fryer.

They taste just as good as deep fried, but without the high calories.

I have done slimming world frozen chips, air fryer frozen steak fries, air fryer smiley fries, air fryer crinkle cut fries, and so many others.  

Can You Cook Oven Chips In An Air Fryer?

YES, you can. I love oven chips in the air fryer and consider it to be the best way to cook oven chips.

Oven chips cooked in the oven can often be boring, however, thanks to the air fryer, you can bring a whole new life to oven chips and make them taste so much better.

I always wondered as a kid how to make oven chips taste better, well its all about the air fryer.

You can air fry oven chips, add a small amount of extra virgin olive oil, season them and enjoy!

What Are The Best Oven Chips?

I have tried many oven chips and even tried a different brand in our air fryer oven chips video.

But it always comes back to McCain oven chips. They are the best and no other brand of oven chips comes even a little bit close.

Frozen Chips Air Fryer Ingredients

Chips – We used one bag of McCain frozen oven chips. Though you can make a smaller portion or swap for another frozen foods brand.

Oil – To prevent the chips from being soggy, we recommend an olive oil spray. You don’t need a lot just enough to spray the tops of them.

How Many Calories In Oven Chips?

The biggest shock when you look at the calories in McCain Oven Chips is how low in calories they are. Just 132 calories per 100g of oven chips.

We shared a big bag of 750g of oven chips between 4 of us and this worked out at JUST 247 calories each.

The ingredients for McCain Oven Chips are just a small amount of sunflower oil and white potatoes, so no worse than any other portion of chips that you cook in the air fryer, but no prep to do on your end.

How To Cook Frozen Chips In Air Fryer?

• Load. Remove your frozen chips from its packaging and add it to the air fryer basket. Make sure any bruised little chips are removed.
• Cook. Then air fry your frozen oven chips for 12 minutes at 180c/360f.
• Shake. Next shake the air fryer basket and spray your oven chips with a little extra virgin olive oil.
• Cook. Then cook for a further 4 minutes at 200c/400f before serving.

And I am sure you can see now how easy it is cooking frozen chips in the air fryer and why it has become one of my favourite frozen foods.

What Are The Best Frozen Chips For Air Fryer?

I have tried many frozen chips in the air fryer, and I always come back to McCain’s. You can just tell the difference and they don’t taste like cheap chips.

When you air fry frozen chips, McCain have so many different options available and whilst oven chips are not the best, there are many that you can try out.

McCain oven chips are never going to taste the best, just because they are prepared with less fat, but by following our recipe we can make them taste better for you.

How Long To Cook Frozen Chips In Air Fryer?

The McCain oven chips cooking time is JUST 16 minutes. This takes your oven chips from frozen in a bag, to crispy like you would have as part of a pub dinner.

However, your frozen chips are cooked by 12 minutes and before the extra virgin olive oil spray is sprayed.

BUT we shake, spray, and cook for the final 5 minutes to make them crispy.
