Air Fryer Lasagna. How to air fry lasagna and cook it from scratch with hardly any washing up. A wonderful easy hearty air fryer pasta recipe for you to try out next.
You all got excited when I showed you how to make air fryer mac and cheese, but did you know the air fryer and the air fryer oven are fantastic for making a homemade American Italian Lasagna too?
Everything is dumped into your air fryer cake pan and the air fryer does the hard work so you don’t have to.

Air Fryer Lasagna
As I type air fryer lasagna into Microsoft Word ahead of Dominic scheduling it for me on Recipe This, it is getting confused.
This is because I type with British English, as I grew up in Northern England and it keeps wanting to correct me and call it air fryer lasagne and thinks air fryer lasagna with an “a” is a typo.
Until I became a food blogger and started to get more and more American visitors to Recipe This, I was not aware of how different things are.
For example, there is zucchini vs courgette, egg plant vs aubergine and not forgetting biscuit vs cookie.
But what is most interesting about the lasagna, is how different an American lasagna is to a British lasagne. You see in England we just have Bolognese in between lasagne sheets and then load the top with homemade cheese sauce.
Very much like a classic Italian lasagne. Whilst in the USA the version is an American Italian and is loaded with ricotta and parmesan and egg and the lasagna sheets are some what different.
It is wonderful to see how different lasagna can be from country to country and learn even more about the favourite food on the other side of the ocean.
I did wonder what version of air fryer lasagna to make for you today and decided on an American Italian ricotta loaded version for the air fryer.
My First Introduction To Lasagna
I grew up on the British lasagne and always loved it. In fact, it was one of the first things that I learnt to cook and the first thing I ever cooked for Dominic. As a cheese sauce freak it was perfect for me.
But the first time I tried an American Lasagna was back in 2012. I was staying at my aunts house for a few days during an American holiday.
We had visited Boston and Florida and were heading to her place in Vermont. We had a wonderful time and there was a lot of food going on and plenty of great family memories.
I didn’t know her very well, or my uncle and it was nice to learn more about them and get to know each other.
The only time she cooked something from scratch for us was a lasagna and it tasted so good and just couldn’t believe how different it was.
The taste of the ricotta and the parmesan was the best and it has taken me until 2020 to make it in the air fryer and share it with you!
Can You Air Fry Lasagna?
Absolutely! And even better, you can turn it into your own one pan dish with hardly any washing up at all.
For me growing up, lasagna always involved a lot of washing up and was rather time consuming.
Just like other one pan dishes, lasagna is perfect for the air fryer.
You use an air fryer dish that just fits into your air fryer and everything is cooked in that one dish.
You then have a spare bowl for when you layer your lasagna as well as a jug for your topping. It turns lasagna into a no fuss easy meal and the air fryer does an amazing job.
Not to mention, the air fryer is fantastic for melting the cheese on top!
Air Fryer Oven Lasagna
We appreciate that some of our readers are making air fryer lasagna and some are making air fryer oven lasagna. With that in mind we decided to cook our lasagna in both the air fryer and the air fryer oven.
That way we could compare the two and make sure you that no matter what type of air fryer you have, that you could make a delicious air fryer lasagna.
What Ingredients & Gadgets Go Into Air Fryer Lasagna?

There are 7 main ingredients that go into an air fryer lasagna:
- Minced Beef
- Onion
- Garlic
- Tomatoes
- Eggs
- Cheese
- Seasoning
I would recommend before making our air fryer lasagna that you have a good air fryer or an air fryer oven.
The air fryers we used today to show you how to make lasagna in the air fryer are the Philips Air Fryer XL and the Power Air Fryer Oven.
As well as this it is IMPORTANT that you have air fryer accessories. These are essential for cooking in the air fryer, just like with owning an oven you have oven trays and sheet pans.
We recommend having an air fryer oven 8 inch square dish. This will be the perfect size for cooking in the air fryer. We particularly like it for air fryer cheese nachos and our maltesers traybake.
If using an air fryer basket, then we recommend a 7 inch cake pan like this one, it is perfect for fitting into your air fryer basket and making a round lasagna, just like we are demonstrating with you today.
Air Fryer Lasagna Tips
- Leftovers? If you have left over lasagna I recommend reheating it in the air fryer as we did! 170c/340f for 10 minutes with a cover over it, will reheat it for you.
- Swaps. You can swap it for a real classic Italian cheese sauce if you wish. Just pour this over at the end instead of the ricotta. You can also mix and match seasonings depending on what you have in your cupboard. I love to use some fresh basil if I have some.
- Cheese Choices. Even though we used grated parmesan, gouda and cheddar, you can use your own favourite grated cheese. Just as long as it is cheese you love that melts well!

How To Air Fry Lasagna?

- Place into your air fryer pan your minced beef, onion, garlic and fresh tomato. Cook in the air fryer until the mince has colour on it and it is easy to mix together.
- Add in tinned tomatoes and seasoning and mix well and cook again until your mince is almost cooked.
- While your mince is cooking, in a measuring jug add together the egg, cheeses and extra seasonings. Mix well until you have a thick sauce.
- Remove the mince from the cake pan and place into a spare bowl.
- Make your lasagna layers. Add a mince layer, a lasagna layer, a cheese layer and carry this on until you have run out of ingredients. Though make sure your last layer is a cheese layer. Sprinkle extra cheese on top and place the pan back in the air fryer.
- Finish cooking your lasagna and serve warm with your favourite sides.
Air Fryer Oven Lasagna

When making air fryer lasagna it is very similar in the air fryer oven. There are just a few small adjustments:
- Cook air fryer oven lasagna on the top shelf, otherwise it will be undercooked.
- You can cook a lot more in the air fryer oven than in the cake pan in an air fryer basket.
- You can cook two air fryer oven lasagnas together. Place one on the top shelf, and one of the next shelf and then rotate so that they both get cooked properly.
