Sausage In Air Fryer

I always remember as a kid telling my dad that his sausages were burnt, and I wasn’t eating them.

They were not burnt they were just too brown for me.

He would then always do them with a less brown colour on them, just for me, well if he didn’t get drunk whilst doing the barbecue that is!

This got me thinking about cooking sausage in air fryer. You see we all like our sausages to a different doneness. We don’t always want anaemic ones like I do, just like we don’t all want them over brown like they are at a barbecue.

Well, that is the beauty of the air fryer and cooking air fryer sausage. You can follow our air fryer sausage cook times and choose just how you like your sausages.

Can You Air Fry Sausages?

Yes, sausages are perfect for the air fryer and once you air fry sausages once, then there is no going back to pan frying them.

Don’t you hate it when you have to cut sausages in half to speed up the way they cook in the frying pan? Yet you don’t need to do this in the air fryer. You can even air fry frozen sausages.

Is It Healthier To Air Fry Sausages?

Yes, it is healthier to air fry sausages. This is because its like when you use a grill pan and then fat goes into the bottom, rather than staying on the sausages.

Though of course, you can also air fry healthier sausages such as air fryer chicken sausages, or air fryer heck sausages.

Can I Wrap Sausages In Foil In Air Fryer?

You can wrap sausages in foil or any air fryer food in foil, BUT it defeats the purpose of using the air fryer to cook sausages. Air fryer sausage links sit in the air fryer and then the fat goes below, reducing the fat and making your sausages a little healthier. However, wrap the sausages in foil and your sausages are swimming in the fat.

Also, air fryer sausages need the air circulation to brown and then if you foil them you will have no browning.

Plus, the sausages will take longer to cook because of the foil.

Can You Cook Sausages In An Air Fryer At 200 Degrees?

Yes, you can cook sausages in an air fryer at 200 degrees, which is 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

But they will get browner much sooner so you will want to keep an eye on them.

Sausages In Air Fryer Time

Through our experiment we cooked sausages for 8 minutes, 10 minutes, 12 minutes and 15 minutes to see what they looked like and what our ideal cook time would be on how we like our sausages.

There were air fryer sausages at 8 minutes:

As you can see no real colour to them, but they do pass an internal temperature and are technically cooked, but hey we all want some brown on them don’t we?

These are the sausages at 15 minutes as you can see they have a typical barbecue brownness:

For me though, you are probably wondering at home how long we air fry our sausages for. Well, we normally do some air fryer pork sausage and will cook them for 10 minutes if adding them to things (think our air fryer sausage bean and cheese melt) or 12 minutes if we want perfect golden sausages for sandwiches.

  1. Hi folks.

I am also from UK and just really starting on trying things. Did your egg and soldiers pressure cooker recipe superb.

Just did sausages for 8 minutes. Should it have read 18? 8 was nowhere near enough in my Ninja or is this recipe for skinny sausages? Just wanted to check. Says 18 minutes on BBC Good food too.

Thanks and I look forward to ploughing through your recipes.

    • Hi John,

The issue we have now is there are many air fryers out there and they all cook different. For this recipe we used a Philips air fryer XL which cooks foods quicker in our opinion. The sausages we used were British sausages but we lived in Portugal at the time so they would be considered thin sausages not like the big thick ones you can get from the butchers over here, but saying that 18 minutes does seem to be a long time and if we did did our sausages from our butchers for that length of time they would be burnt.

We have been using air fryers for over 12 years so we help people with the knowledge we have gained from the very first air fryer that we bought and was available in the UK. We have not used a Ninja air fryer but have used the Ninja Foodi air fryer and found it to be just a few minutes off of our cook times that we had done for comparison.

But when always cooking high risk foods please use a thermometer to double check that food is fully cooked, above 70c/140f for most foods that would be cooked in the air fryer 🙂
