Air Fryer Sausage

I could literally sit here and type away and share so many memories of eating the classic English sausage. My mind is just wondering all over the place just thinking about how much I love sausages and how I grew up on them.

But I won’t bore you with every type of English sausage I love or how much I had them, because that could run into 1000’s of 1000’s of words.

I am British born after all, and as Dominic says you can’t take the British out of the girl and that is so true.

But what I do want to share with you is when I made the move from cooking sausages in the oven or on the grill to the wonderful world of air fryer sausages.

You see sausages in the air fryer are truly delicious. The air fryer sausage is crispy like it has been fried and you can just load them into your air fryer and come back to them later.

Air Fryer Sausage Links

To us English folk it is just a sausage. We might differentiate the sausage based on brand but that is it.

We might say Italian sausage, leek sausage, expensive sausage, homemade sausage, or cheap Richmond sausage. But that is it.

It was only when we went on holiday to Disney World that we realised that a sausage to people overseas in the US, is quite different to ours.

For example, I had never heard of a breakfast sausage before and just assumed it was the same as ours and that our classic sausages are more well known as a sausage link.

I get why my recipe today would be considered as air fryer sausage links.

As I hold them up for you, you can see that it basically comes down to the fact that when the sausages are made, they are prepped as sausage links.

Then when you cook them, you can cook them with the link still attached or as individual sausages.

Often when we buy sausages in England, they have already had their links cut and its only if you buy them from the butchers that they are sold as sausage links.

So, whether you call them air fryer sausage or air fryer sausage links, they taste amazing. Grab your favourite sausages and let’s cook them in the air fryer!

Frying Sausage In The Air Fryer

We don’t have sausages all the time and just buy them when they are on clearance. I am obsessed with food on clearance as its such a big thing in Europe, just like in the US they love to collect coupons.

If you live in the US you have probably heard of yellow stickers, but not sure what they mean. Basically, it is a yellow sticker on food that is reduced in price because it is near to its use by date. Though here in Portugal they are a mix of orange and pink stickers.

If you’re on my newsletter, you will have heard me talk about them frequently and how on 26th of December with way too much Christmas food leftover that I always get some sausages for the air fryer at a really good price.

My favourite is the pork and leek sausages that are also loaded with parsley and made by the butchers.

I get them in a big pack and will bring them home and separate them into a few different freezer bags and then save them for later.

There are of course many types of sausage that you can buy and they all air fry very well. We also love turkey sausages and the classic Brazilian sausage too. It just depends on what deal we get on sausages.

From years of experience of cooking sausages in the air fryer, I have found that the less the fat the better.

That is because the more fat, the more air comes out of the sides of your air fryer and fatty sausages have a habit of turning your kitchen into a smoke room and setting off your kitchen alarm.

Many people that have bought new air fryers, have tried cooking fatty sausages have been shocked by the amount of smoke and have never used their air fryer again.

So that been said, if you are new air frying, I suggest you start with a low-fat sausage such as turkey or chicken.
