Air Fryer Spam Fritters. The legendary spam is making its way into our Philips Air Fryer to make the most delicious semi healthy spam fritters. They taste so delicious you will want to relive the childhood favourite.

As we reach the last post of our World War 2 theme it goes without saying that we MUST make some Spam Fritters. Spam Fritters to me are the most famous of all of the World War 2 recipes.
That is because during the Second World War or as Uncle Albert says “The 1939-1945 conflict with Germany” fish wasn’t readily available, so instead of fish and chips it was always spam and chips.
You would have your spam and chips just like your fish and chips. There would be a rich batter and it would often be served up with mushy peas.
I never had the pleasure growing up, even though I had heard of it many times. I grew up more on the cans of pasta rather than the spam or the corned beef. Which is probably why I hate canned pasta so much and love corned beef and spam.
But when I had tried spam fritters in adulthood I was totally hooked, and it got me thinking that it would be PERFECT for the air fryer.

Air Fryer Spam Fritters
Air Fryer Spam Fritters are so easy to make. You set up your production line (like I often show you in many of our breaded recipes) and then remove your spam from the can.
Though in our case the spam cans that we bought were so small we needed 2 of them, then it was barely enough to feed the five of us. So, we could have been on rations after all!
But on the positive side, I always remember spam cans for having a lot of jelly and other rubbish to remove, but in this case, it was straight to the spam.
Air Fryer Spam Fritters take just 8 minutes to cook via the Air Fryer Grill Pan. If you don’t have an air fryer grill pan yet then they are a MUST BUY. I use them a lot and you can see them in more detail in our air fryer accessories guide.
Simply cover your spam slices in flour, then in egg wash and then in our special gluten free oats blend and in the air fryer grill pan they go.
Batter For Spam Fritters

Due to time management issues with ended up making a gluten free oats batter instead of a regular breadcrumb one. We always thought that a healthy batter wouldn’t be welcome as spam is processed foods anyway, so who wants it to be healthy on the outside?
They want naughty spam fritters!
To make Spam Fritters in the air fryer we would normally put on a loaf of bread in the bread maker and then use this for breadcrumbs, as it’s the cheapest option. But we forgot about the bread maker and realised we needed a breading there and then.

So, we used what we use in a lot of our healthy recipes and that is gluten free oats. Blended in the blender and they are a delicious healthy breadcrumbs plan B. Plus you don’t feel as guilty then having highly processed meat when you have a healthy coating.
The brand of Gluten Free Oats that we use is Bob’s Red Mill and we have been using them for a long time for battering everything with!

You can use Bob’s Red Mill (like we do) or go for a breadcrumbs crust. Whatever works best for you and whatever is easiest in getting your spam fritters in the air fryer and enjoying them!

This looks good and I’m going to try it. I have one question though: The Imperial recipe says to use 13.33 cups of SPAM. Is that correct?
Hi Robert
Yes that is correct as close to the software we use allows. 400g equates to 14.10 oz if that helps give you a better conversion 🙂
