Rolo Yoghurt

I never buy flavoured yoghurts from the supermarket. I find them too expensive and would much rather buy a big tub of Greek yoghurt or natural yoghurt and then add flavours to it.

The kids favourite now, is Greek yoghurt from Aldi (their fat free Greek tastes amazing!) and then they will have it with some food colouring, and some sprinkles.

They love mixing and matching the food colouring and it ends up like our rainbow ice cream recipe.

Or in summer if we have some spare fruit, we will add the yoghurt to some strawberries and make a yummy strawberry yoghurt.

The rolo yoghurt idea came about, because we were living in Portugal, and it was the only flavoured yoghurt I ever bought.

I bought it because it was my favourite and only ever if it was on reduced price because it was near its use by date. Of course, this didn’t happen very often and instead I wanted to make my own.

Our instant pot Greek yoghurt meets Rolos and toffee sauce to make this delicious chocolately yoghurt.

Are Rolo Yoghurts Gluten Free?

The rolo yoghurt ingredients that we use to make the yoghurt with are gluten free. Such as Greek yoghurt, milk and sauce.

And the rolo chocolate that we added is also gluten free.

What Is A Rolo Yoghurt?

For those of you that live outside of the UK and don’t get the obsession with a rolo yoghurt, then note its one of the best tasting yoghurts ever.

Featuring chocolate and caramel like in a packet of rolos and then with a really creamy yoghurt.

Our version uses toffee sauce + homemade instant pot yoghurt + mixed in rolls of rolos.

The Yoghurt For Yoghurt Haters

I also consider this rolo yoghurt recipe to be the yoghurt for yoghurt haters. Most people that hate yoghurt do so because all the additives in yoghurt.

Then they try real homemade yoghurt, and they are shocked by how delicious it actually is.

If in doubt, try the instant pot Greek yoghurt first then add in extras and see what you think.

Why Yoghurt Is Good For You?

Yoghurt is good for you because it is high in protein, fills you up and is a good source of calcium and other vitamins.

However, not all yoghurts are created equal and if you want healthy yoghurt go with plain Greek yoghurt.

Which Yoghurt Is Healthy?

One that you make yourself. Nothing is going to be more healthy than your own homemade yoghurt.

Often when you look on the ingredients of yoghurts, you will see ingredients you can not understand, that are needed to make the yoghurt longer lasting.

By making your own yoghurt like we show you in our instant pot yoghurt setting guide, you can strip it of these extras and just use plain Greek yoghurt and milk.

Rolo Yoghurt Ingredients

Yoghurt – You will need a tablespoon of shop bought yoghurt to make homemade yoghurt with. Any with active cultures is fine and I prefer the Fage Greek yoghurt.

Milk – The second essential ingredient for making this rolo yoghurt recipe is some milk. You can also swap out 1 cup of it for sweetened condensed milk to make it even sweeter.

Sauce – I also recommend some sauce that you can pour into your yoghurt such as toffee sauce or caramel sauce. We used M&S toffee sauce.

Rolos – You will also want plenty of rolos that you can add into the yoghurt. You can crunch them up and add them or melt them and then stir in once cool.

Whisk – You’re also going to need a silicone whisk that you can use in the instant pot to whisk up the milk and yoghurt ahead of hitting the yoghurt setting.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this rolo yoghurt recipe it has just been our Instant Pot. We have this one and it’s my favourite and great for a lot of foods that can make from scratch.

  • Gradually. Then gradually add the rest of the milk and whisk until you have milk bubbles.

My Instant Pot Yoghurt

My Instant Pot Yoghurt

This rolo yoghurt recipe, was done during a big batch of a range of different instant pot yoghurts. We did Greek yoghurt, natural yoghurt, then condensed milk yoghurt as well as some with strawberries and a few other flavours.

This rolo yoghurt was our favourite, and the one that was gone fastest from the fridge.

Rolo Yoghurt Tips & Tricks

  • Don’t skip the straining step. It removes any excess water and makes your yoghurt extra creamy so that you would think it was high fat.
  • Want a higher fat Greek yoghurt? Then swap 5% fat for full fat yoghurt and use whole milk (full fat milk) instead of semi skimmed.
  • You can store leftover yoghurt in plastic mason jars and then store them in the fridge. We use these ones.
  • Make sure you whisk your milk and yoghurt together. It will make a much better yoghurt and will be light and creamy.
  • Put the yoghurt on in early afternoon (about 2pm), then it will be ready for placing in the fridge at 10pm before bed, then cool overnight in the fridge and its ready for straining from 8am.
  • Strain your yoghurt by placing kitchen towel over a sieve and pouring through.

Notes

Quantities. I have listed this recipe as a quantity of 2 and that is because it fills 1 jar and is plenty for two.
Swaps. You can do the same and then swap rolo chocolate for any favourite chocolate and sauce combination.
Silicone. It’s essential that you use a silicone whisk because otherwise it will damage the instant pot inner pot.

I tried this using some chocolate beans as we do not have the toffee rolo things you mention in the post. It was so delicious and my kids think i bought it from the shop, that is how good it tastes.
