I will admit it now, that I am a frugal home cook. I am so frugal that my husband Dominic will often say to me “you are so tight”.
When I buy vegetables, I will only buy them when they are reduced in price to keep my grocery bill down.
Usually, the groceries we do buy are broccoli, carrots and cauliflower because they are cheap, and you can use them in a lot of different recipes.
However, I often find asparagus rather expensive and rarely buy it. I will then wait until the asparagus is on a special deal and then buy loads of it to cook with my kitchen gadgets.
Last week I was grocery shopping and saw a great deal on asparagus and thought it was about time, that I showed you how easy it is to cook asparagus in the air fryer.

Can You Cook Asparagus In An Air Fryer?
Yes, you can. Asparagus, like other vegetables can be cooked in the air fryer in a similar way to how vegetables are roasted in the oven.
When you are cooking air fryer roasted asparagus, the asparagus doesn’t need soaking, it doesn’t need parboiling, instead the air fryer works its magic.
You also have a lot of options when it comes to cooking asparagus in the air fryer such as adding parmesan, lemon, butter, or other flavour combinations.
Asparagus In Air Fryer
I have cooked a lot of different vegetables in the air fryer. Asparagus in air fryer is up there in the top 5 just because of how simple it is.
You are literally loading asparagus into the air fryer and air frying it. Just like how you cook air fryer peppers or air fryer tomatoes.
The only complication I have found is making sure it fits. Some air fryers are small and can’t handle the length of asparagus. You can either chop these down or cook them diagonally so that they will fit.
I also love asparagus for if you follow the keto diet because it’s a low carb vegetable that you can bulk up the fats with some butter and cheese.
How To Air Fry Asparagus?
This is how to cook asparagus in the air fryer:
- Trim the ends and wash the asparagus.
- Load into the air fryer.
- Set time and temp.
- Air fry + serve.
You can probably see now why I am so obsessed with cooking in the air fryer!
How I Like My Air Fried Asparagus
I get it, we all have different tastes and how I like my air fryer asparagus maybe different to yours.
For me, its all about the butter and the cheese.
But you have a problem there and that is air fried asparagus is easy to lose its butter and cheese and make a mess in the air fryer.
That is why foil is my plan B!
I will start the asparagus cooking process, then I will remove the asparagus from the air fryer, add a layer of foil, add the asparagus and add butter and cheese.
Then the butter and cheese melts onto the asparagus and not the air fryer.

How Long To Air Fry Asparagus?
You will love how fast it is to air fry asparagus. The initial cook time is JUST 8 minutes followed by a further 3 minutes with foil.

How To Cook Asparagus In Air Fryer
Ingredients
Kitchen Gadgets:
Air Fryer Asparagus Ingredients:
- 250 g Asparagus
- Salt & Pepper
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil Spray
- 8 g Butter
- 30 g Grated Cheese
Instructions
- Chop the bottoms off the asparagus and season with salt and pepper.
- Place in the air fryer basket making sure that they fit and then spray with extra virgin olive oil. Air fry for 8 minutes at 180c/360f.
- Remove the asparagus and add a layer of foil in the air fryer basket. Add the asparagus back in and add small bits of butter and grated cheese.
- Air fry for a further 3 minutes at 200c/400f before serving.
