Instant Pot Baby Parsnips is the latest edition in our favourite foods to steam in the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker.
Followers of our blog that have followed us for a while, will know that this is not the first time we have featured Instant Pot Parsnips.
Both are favourites of ours but the idea behind baby parsnips in the Instant Pot, is that prep is kept to a minimum and you could also have them as finger food if you followed a healthy diet.
Rose from the Titanic would say I have had a love affair with parsnips and that is TRUE. I am completely and utterly in love with parsnips and I have been since childhood.
If someone held a potato in one hand and a parsnip in the other, then I would always choose the parsnip as they are AMAZING.
At Christmas I will always load my plate with roasted parsnips and not care too much for roasted potatoes.
They also remind me of Christmas food and when I buy them, I sniff them. I just love the smell of parsnips and I could eat them all the time forever and ever.
Sadly, they are rarely available in Portugal and I am lucky if I get them outside of Christmas. Plus I hate the pricetag that they carry in Portugal, when they are 60% cheaper in England.
Fast forward to last spring and I got my hands on some lovely looking baby parsnips and just knew, that I had to steam them in the Instant Pot!
Instant Pot Whole Baby Parsnips
Instant Pot whole baby parsnips is that moment when you get the chance to be lazy. You don’t have to chop up your parsnips, just peel them and top and tail them.
Throw them in the Instant Pot and let the Instant Pot work its magic.
Depending on how big or how small they are, they should fit perfectly in your steamer basket and then your steamer basket will do the hard work for you.
I recommend the steamer below as it is the perfect size for the Instant Pot, or any other pressure cooker. It stops the parsnips from being submerged in the water and allows them to be steamed and not boiled.
Cooking Baby Parsnips In The Instant Pot
These Baby Parsnips are perfect for cooking in the Instant Pot. That is because you can peel them and then load them into the steamer basket inside of your inner pot. Pour over the water and you’re done.
It is totally hands free and keeps the delicious flavour that comes from fresh parsnips.
How To Cook Baby Parsnips In The Instant Pot?
I start by topping and tailing the baby parsnips and follow this up by peeling them with my julienne peeler.
I place my parsnips onto the steamer basket inside of the Instant Pot and add the required liquid.
The Instant Pot lid is placed on and once it goes to pressure, it only needs a few short minutes until they are done.
Once I have steamed my parsnips in the Instant Pot, I can lay them on a chopping board, load them up with my favourite seasonings and serve.
The best bit is you can snack on them or have them as part of a meal. You can season them with whatever you like, it doesn’t have to be limited to just salt and pepper.
I know if my husband Dominic is read this, that he will be shouting out BUTTER at me. Apparently, I don’t add butter enough to his food!
How Long Does It Take To Cook Baby Parsnips In The Instant Pot?
You’ll probably be worrying that they will take forever and ever. Especially, when you think that the average sliced parsnip in the Instant Pot takes 3 minutes, that it must be much longer.
Well steaming baby parsnips in the Instant Pot is not that bad. In fact, it is JUST 4 minutes.
I put down the quick cooking time to the fact that you’re not cooking much food at once and the Instant Pot has plenty of room to breathe.

Instant Pot Baby Parsnips

- Top and tail the baby parsnips and peel them with your Julienne Peeler.
- Place the parsnips inside of the Instant Pot steamer basket and lower into the inner pot of the Instant Pot.
- Pour a cup of cold water over the parsnips.
- Place the lid on the Instant Pot, set the valve to sealing and cook for 4 minutes on manual.
- When it beeps use QPR (quick pressure release).
- Remove the parsnips from the Instant Pot and place on a clean chopping board. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and serve.
