Instant Pot Sweet Chili Chicken Wings. My favourite date night Asian Instant Pot Chicken Wings that are sweet yet a little spicy. Easy to prep and perfect for romantic nights in for two.

Instant Pot Sweet Chilli Chicken Wings was originally published on RecipeThis.com in 2017 as part of a romantic date night series that we ran and I am now updating it.
Instant Pot Sweet Chili Chicken Wings
All this week on Recipe This we will be celebrating romance. Showing you delicious meals that you can make for two with your kitchen gadgets and how having a night together shouldn’t break the bank.
Maybe you want some delicious suppers to eat while binge watching Netflix on the sofa or to take to the beach on a summer’s day.
We will be starting today with chicken wings in the Instant Pot, then we will have dessert and sides later in the week. Though, you could just as easily have this any night of the week when you fancy a frugal date night with your other half.
Instant Pot Sweet Chili Chicken Wings is perfect for this because they are so easy to prep, and you don’t have to spend the night in the kitchen. These sweet chili wings are also perfect for when you have both been at work all day and can’t be bothered to cook.
Taking away items that I have in the cupboard such as honey, dried herbs etc I worked out that a date night in on our menu costs the following:
- Chicken Wings – 1,10€
- Sweet Potato Wedges – 0,60€
- Popcorn – 0,40€
- Cookies – 0,50€
This brings it to a total cost for the two of you of just 2,60€ (just over $3). Now if you compare this to going out for a special dinner which would probably set you back at least 40€ or alternatively ringing a takeaway and getting it delivered which would probably cost you 20€.
Yet here you are with it all in for less than 3€.
Plus, it is so much fun flirting in the kitchen as you are cooking your meal. So next when it is your wedding anniversary, Valentines night or you just want an excuse to be romantic then get our Instant Pot Sweet Chili Chicken Wings and the rest of our menu out and give it a go!
On this blog post today, we will just be covering our Instant Pot Sweet Chili Wings but if you would like to explore the full menu you can do so below:

Can You Instant Pot Chicken Wings?
Absolutely! I find that the chicken wing meat itself is a lot more tender when it is cooked in the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker, compared to cooking chicken wings in the oven.
Will An Instant Pot Make Crispy Chicken Wings?
Absolutely! But you will need the latest Instant Pot Accessory that is on the market and it is owned by an Instant Pot competitor called Mealthy. It is called a crisp lid.

Basically, what it is, is a different lid to place on the top of either a 6 or an 8 litre/quart Instant Pot/Mealthy Electric Pressure Cooker. It then crisps up your food when you attach the lid to the top.
It literally turns your electric pressure cooker into an air fryer. Making it PERFECT for our Instant Pot Sweet Chili Chicken Wings and especially for making your chicken wings crispy.
However, if you just cook chicken wings the regular way in the Instant Pot they will not be crispy, but they will be delicious.

Chicken Wings In Instant Pot & Air Fryer
If you don’t have the crisp lid but have an Instant Pot and an Air Fryer, then I recommend you finish the cooking process in the air fryer to crisp up your sweet chili chicken wings.
Simply add a drizzle of olive oil and a little salt and pepper and then cook them on 200c/400f for 4 minutes and they will be perfect crispy chicken wings.
Instant Pot Vs Air Fryer Chicken Wings
I love how tender the Instant Pot makes my chicken wings. They are the most amazing tender chicken wings that you will ever try and will never be dry.
However, with Air Fryer chicken wings they are like deep fried chicken wings that are sometimes dry in the centre, but the skin is to truly spectacular.
That is why if you want the BEST EVER chicken wings you need to combine the Air Fryer with the Instant Pot. Start the cooking process in the Instant Pot and then finish it off in either the Air Fryer or by attaching the crisp lid to your Instant Pot.
How To Instant Pot Chicken Wings

We follow the foil packet method when cooking Instant Pot Chicken Wings. This means that when you cook them, they sit in a foil packet, create little mess and the flavour stays with the chicken. It produces a much better chicken wing and its perfect for eating while camping too.
The chicken wings are prepped in the container they are purchased in and make very little mess.
Then the chicken wings steam under pressure and you have moist and tender sweet chili chicken wings to eat.
Then it is personal choice if you want to follow this up with crisping them or eating them as they are.

How many wings are in a pack?
Samantha and Dominic says
Hi Carol,
The packs of chicken wings that we buy has about 12 small chicken wings and sometimes 10 large ones. It just depends on how they have been pre-packaged at the supermarket.
Kind regards
Sam
Sandra says
Are the chicken wings frozen?
Samantha and Dominic says
Hi Sandra
No the chicken wings are not frozen they are fresh bought from the supermarket.
Kind Regards
Sam
Wendy says
Is there an alternative to cooking in foil?
Samantha and Dominic says
Hi Wendy,
I think you could use baking paper. If you scrunch it up and may tie the top of it then that should work the same. Anything that will keep the heat in and not melt will be fine.
Kind Regards
Sam

How do they get brown?
Samantha and Dominic says
Hi Deb
To get the wings brown you can cook them on saute before or after you have fully cooked them 🙂
Kind Regards
Dom

Hmmm I must have done something wrong because mine were still pretty raw after coming up to pressure, staying there 10 min and then cooling down for 5.
Grill to the rescue
Samantha and Dominic says
Hi Claudia,
Our pack of chicken wings is around the 1kg mark and we cooked one at these times, if you are located in America the chicken wings are bigger than the ones we can get here, so that is the only thing i can think of unless the Instant Pot did not go to pressure completely, we have had this sometimes with ours where it looks like it has but the food inside can still be uncooked after pressure release. To make sure your ring is ok just put some water in for a minute and steam to see if it is working ok and do a quick release and their should be a large amount of steam that comes out, if not give the ring a clean and try again 🙂
Any more problems feel free to ask 🙂
