Rice In Ninja Foodi

I love rice but it never feels like I get to eat it enough. Married to a rice hater, well unless it is instant pot rice pudding and just prefer to cook meals that everyone enjoys.

But over recent years my kids have developed a love for rice and I finally have people to share it with, even if it is little people.

They love instant pot paella just as much as me, adore my instant pot brown rice and will take any excuse to have a rice dish with their mum.

Jorge mentioned to me, that even though we cook rice a LOT in the instant pot, that we still haven’t made rice in the Ninja Foodi.

I took the hint and there and then we made our first ever batch of Ninja Foodi brown rice. It was delicious and tasted just like our instant pot brown rice.

He then asked about photos and when I was writing about it, in that sweet little four year old voice.

I mentioned that our readers would not be impressed after all, they could just follow instant pot brown rice and it was the same, just a different brand of electric pressure cooker.

But what both myself and Jorge agreed on, is that we could do a Ninja Foodi rice alternative, that was better, that wasn’t plain rice, but something binge worthy instead and this is what we made.

Beware though, there is butter in this, and you know how it goes with butter, it makes you want to binge on it.

Can You Cook Rice In Ninja Foodi?

Yes, you can. Rice in the Ninja Foodi is truly amazing!

You can do so many different versions of rice in the Ninja, just like you could with a rice cooker. Once you get the hang of it, you can use this as a reason to sell your rice cooker and food steamer.

You can focus on cooking plain rice in the Ninja, like you would if you were serving steamed rice in a restaurant. You throw it all in, then come back when the Ninja Foodi beeps.

Or you can make rice more interesting and add flavours to it. Such as mushroom rice, dal, paella etc.

Though I will be sharing with you today how to make seasoned rice that fits in with a ridiculous amount of different main dishes.

Cooking Seasoned Rice In The Ninja Foodi

I love seasoned rice and it reminds me of the packets of rice I used to buy as a kid and then heat up in the microwave.

They would usually include some delicious dried seasonings, sometimes vegetables and you would mix in butter when reheating.

Instead, what I like to do in the Ninja Foodi is to add seasonings and butter as it cooks, then stir in some extra butter at the end.

It makes the most amazing rice, that I am stood over the dish in the kitchen with a fork, not being able to stop myself from having fork after fork of it.

Ninja Foodi Brown Rice

I bloat incredibly easily and find that brown rice is better for me, than using regular white rice. I also love how easy it is to cook Ninja Foodi brown rice.

This is the brown rice that we use that we get from a whole foods online shop:

They sell it in bulk and then I always have a good supply of it in my pantry.

If you have had failures when cooking rice in a pressure cooker, then try brown rice instead.

How To Cook Rice In Ninja Foodi?

ninja foodi rice step by step

If you want to cook rice in the Ninja Foodi this is how you do it:

  1. Place liquid into the Ninja cooking pot.
  2. Add brown rice.
  3. Pressure cook + fluff up.
  4. Serve.

How Long Do You Cook Rice In The Ninja Foodi?

The Ninja Foodi rice cook time is JUST 18 minutes. This will produce perfect fluffy rice that is not sticky and that is perfectly cooked.

Don’t you hate it when you cook rice and it is either crunchy because it is under cooked or it is sticky and has a starchy texture? Well get the cook time right and you can avoid this.

Why Is My Rice Sticky In The Pressure Cooker?

I know many people cook rice and complaint that it is sticky and can’t understand what is going wrong in the pressure cooker.

Well, there are two reasons for this:

  1. The brown rice has not been rinsed. If the rice is not rinsed first it carries a lot of starch like texture and can make it very sticky once cooked. Some brands of brown rice (like the one we use) have already been thoroughly rinsed and I notice that this problem can often occur with cheaper brands of rice.
  2. The brown rice is overcooked. If the rice cooks for too long it gets a sticky texture and then is hard to fluff up.

Notes

Oil. I always recommend sauteing an onion or some mushrooms prior to adding the rice. This gives the cooking pot an oily texture and will stop the rice from sticking to the pot and make cleaning easier afterwards.
Ratio. Note that the ratio is 1 cup of rice to 1.25 cups of liquid to make rice. You can expand this and do 2 cups of rice to 2.5 cups of water or 3 cups of rice to 3.75 cups of water.
Grams. If you prefer to weigh your rice, 2 cups of rice = 400g.

    • Hi Bill,

I do not think that would be possible, only way to do it would be cook half way then fluff then put back for the rest of the time but unless you reduce the time the rice will be over cooked ????
