Welcome to our review of the Pizza Pino Restaurant. It is an authentic Italian restaurant situated at Mar Shopping in Loule in the Algarve. A great place for families to hang out while eating delicious Italian food.
I am super excited because we have a new shopping centre here in the Algarve in Southern Portugal. You see our shopping centres are nothing like the ones that we were used to growing up in England. They are not like Manchester’s Trafford Centre, Sheffield’s Meadow Hall or Newcastle’s Metro Centre. Instead they are small like a small local towns shopping facilities are like. If you want the big shopping centre, then you must hit the city.
Something we rarely do.
We would go shopping and it was an okay experience, but we would complain to each other that what we went looking for, wasn’t available and that we needed to go home and shop online.
Then the shopping centre that we had been shopping at for years, swapped my favourite bowling alley for a private doctor’s surgery. Then all my favourite shopping centre restaurants were swapped for more shops. Not even shops that I liked!
Now a shopping centre eating experience is either McDonalds, Burger King, KFC or Pizza Hut. Hardly variety!
So, when we heard we were getting a new shopping centre and it would have shops of my dreams and better eating facilities then I was made up.
It was called Mar Shopping and it would be a good half an hour drive away, but would be worth it. It would have an IKEA, Starbucks and better eating facilities.
We went there on a busy Saturday just before Christmas. Saw Father Christmas for free, did some Christmas shopping and were impressed that we had finally found a shopping centre that had everything that we needed under one roof. Without having to go to a separate retail park and feeling like a traditional shopping centre.
But we still needed to do the one MAIN THING. And that was to check out the eating facilities and this is when we stumbled upon the Pizza Pino Restaurant. But we were out with pizza haters and finally here we are sampling it at last!
Fast forward to my 36th birthday and a day of shopping, lunch and of course a slice of cake at Starbucks was in order.
You walk up a bit of a hill (or up the steps) to the restaurant and it covers quite an area with a view of the shopping centre.
We waited to be seated and after requesting a particular table (which they gave us), we sat down and had a look at the menu. It was fairly busy for a lunch time and the staff seemed to be on their toes and up for the challenge of catering for the 2 of us and our 2 small children. There were other children in the restaurant, so I am sure it wasn’t going to be a problem.
Pizza Pino Restaurant Eats & Drinks
I glanced at the prices and was quite surprised by how much cheaper the prices were compared to Pizza Hut and other pizza places here in the Algarve. In fact, I would go as far to say that eating here is cheaper than Burger King or KFC. Plus, we are talking homemade pizza here guys, which let’s face it, you would pay a premium for!
- Garlic bread with cheese for the starter
- Cheese pizza for the kids to share
- Hamburger with fries and salad for us grownups
This was probably more food than what we needed, but it would be nice to sample a mixture of food and you never know how much the kids are going to eat. Plus, I find its much better value for money for them to share an adult meal, rather than ordering 2 kids portion meals.
Just look at this garlic bread, doesn’t it just shout BINGE ON ME NOW???
Clearly, we had to zoom in on the garlic bread as it was so yummy, that it needed to be centre stage. Plus of course I had to steal a slice before I took the picture, as the smell just got to me too much!
But it gets better there was of course the pizza:
It was the most AMAZING cheese pizza and perfect for sharing. Sofia never finishes her food unless it is finger lickin chicken, but we knew that Jorge would give it a good go!
As well as that there were hamburgers each for the parents. With French Fries a homemade burger sauce and some salad.
Pizza Pino Restaurant Highs & Lows
OMG where should I start? Well I think with the most amazing waiter I have ever had. We mentioned in passing that the cheese pizza was for my 2 under 4s to share. I never asked for any special treatment, just as a statement that they were sharing the pizza and us parents were having the hamburgers.
In response they brought out the pizza, split between 2 plates and chopped into bite sized pieces for them.
Here is Sofia having one of her slices:
They never had to do this, and it was truly amazing.
Its always those added touches that make dining out so special.
The food also came fast, they were good portion sizes, the service was spectacular, the food tasted amazing and we will certainly be back for more.
One of my pet hates eating out in Portugal is waiting forever for the bill. It came fast and I had a great birthday meal.
The only negative that I have is the bottled water. Here in Portugal it is always sold in plastic containers and therefore great for my daughter to help herself to, but for the first time ever we were served water in glass bottles.
Though all in all Pizza Pino is a great family restaurant that I can’t wait to go back to. It’s just a shame that it is a 30-minute drive away from our house.
Plus, I can’t wait to go back in the summer when we can eat outside and enjoy the Portuguese sunshine.
Pizza Pino Restaurant RecipeThis.com Ratings
We love to share our unbiased ratings here on RecipeThis.com of what we thought of eating out at local restaurants or restaurants we come across via our travels. We refuse to review restaurants and hotels for payment as we feel the service can often change and it can give a biased account, which we do not want.
As when we are paid to review a kitchen gadget that kitchen gadget will not change in its quality compared to if we are paid to review it or not. But with eating at a restaurant they can change the chef to their best, hire in extra staff or be on their best behaviour.
So our restaurant and travel reviews are completely unbiased and the places we are visiting have no knowledge that we are food bloggers.
