Crockpot Apple Butter

Welcome to our Crockpot Apple Butter. A simple recipe for the crockpot that I just love making with my seasonal apples. This is the kind of recipe I bought a crockpot for as I love the dump and forget way of slow cooking.

Instructions

  • Peel and thinly dice the apples and place them in the crockpot.
  • Combine the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  • Pour over apples in the crockpot and mix well.
  • Cook on high for an hour and then stir, decrease to low and cook for 10 hours or until they are thickened and dark brown.
  • Uncover and cook on low for a further 1 hour without the lid on.
  • Mix with a blender until smooth and then allow to cool.
  • Spoon into freezer containers and freeze for later.

Notes

I also like to do the same with peaches, plums or pears. You can use any kind of apples, but if you are doing Granny Smiths then make sure you double the sugar otherwise it will be really bitter. The apple weight is before we have peeled and diced them, not after.
