Ingredients

Instructions

  • Start by making the batter. Mix together the plain flour, the seasoning and the beer. Mix until smooth and make sure you don’t have any lumps from the flour. Place the batter in the fridge for an hour.
  • Peel and then slice the potatoes into chip shapes.
  • Squeeze any excess moisture from the fish and season well with salt and pepper.
  • Chop the fish into fish pieces and dunk into the batter until well coated.
  • Place the chips in the Airfryer with the olive oil drizzled over them and cook for 6 minutes at 180c/360f.
  • Transfer the potatoes to the baking pan and cook along with the fish at the same temperature for a further 7 minutes.
  • Serve with dipping sauce.

Notes

We used Sagres beer. It’s a very popular regular beer that is sold in Portugal. The great thing is that we can buy it by the can and it saves on waste. For a dip for dunking I made a quick one with natural Greek Yoghurt. I mixed together 3 tablespoons of Greek Yoghurt with the juice of a small lemon, along with ½ a teaspoon of fresh minced garlic.
It is so good and perfect for your beer battered fish and chips! We found that placing the battered fish over the half cooked chips meant that the chips were like chippy chips and had loads of flavour. I use turmeric in the batter as it helps give it the golden colour when cooked with the paprika.
