Air Fryer Fried Green Tomatoes. Paleo Green Tomatoes cooked until crispy in the Air Fryer. With a delicious healthy gluten free breading you will want to put our Air Fryer Green Tomatoes on your top sides list.
Firstly, let me tell you the story behind our air fryer fried green tomatoes.
I have this problem and it’s a cultural problem and it comes to bite me every now and again. I call it my dream foods to try list, if only I could get my hands on them.
It really annoys me and depresses me at times.
I read these delicious recipes and learn about different food cultures from around the world, become eager to try them and then realise that they not available in Portugal.
Don’t get me wrong there is a lot of amazing food in Portugal. I am honoured to be able to have some of the best Mediterranean food. We have cheap fruit and vegetables whenever we want them, amazing chicken and pork, endless fish if fish is your thing and don’t get me started about the wonderful extra virgin olive oil.
Or for Americans that find oranges expensive, having a never ending supply of orange trees is an added bonus.
But years of wishing later and still not once have I being able to get spaghetti squash to cook in the Instant Pot. It was advertised recently but the stock had already all gone, as people like me rushed out to get them.
The same can be said for the squash family. You can get a pumpkin or a green courgette but the rest of the squash family is unobtainable. Not even summer yellow courgettes!
Another similar food on the list was green tomatoes. I have had a lifelong wish to make fried green tomatoes and since getting my first air fryer 8 years ago, all I have thought about making is Air Fryer Fried Green Tomatoes.
I got a shock when I was on a late night binge at the supermarket recently. I asked Dominic to drop me off (poor guy is the only driver in the family) so that I could go in and see if they had any clearance whole chickens. They are my thing and I will often buy 6 whole chickens at once. They were out of them but what I did find was some green tomatoes.
FINALLY some green tomatoes. Though don’t tell Kyle as he will cry as he HATES tomatoes!
I held them in my hand and it felt so good. I took them to the till and the woman at the till looked at them like they were out of a UFO. She then had to check the price of this unfamiliar product and finally a cheap 1 EURO later and I had my green tomatoes.
All I needed to do now was to turn my green tomatoes into air fryer fried green tomatoes!

Paleo Air Fryer Fried Green Tomatoes
Its January and the healthy month of the year is upon us. Many of us will have converted to Paleo or are putting yourselves through a month of the Whole30. Or you might just be allergic to gluten and follow a gluten free diet.
If this happens to be YOU then you will love the fact that my air fryer fried green tomatoes are Paleo friendly thanks to my love of Bob’s Red Mill. I have always loved quality gluten free products like Bob’s Red Mill that allow you to enjoy breaded air fryer food just without the gluten.
In my air fryer fried green tomatoes we are pairing up three of Bob’s Red Mill products and that is the oat bran, oat flour and rolled oats. These three products are probably my favourites from his collection and are perfect for fake flour and breadcrumb coatings in your fried green tomatoes.
You can get all three from Amazon but where I like to get my Bob’s Red Mill supplies from is Thrive Market. You pay a fee and then pay a lot less for your supplies. Its like buying luxury goods at Walmart prices.

If you click on the banner below you can access all our recommended air fryer accessories that you should invest in for your air fryer:
Blender – I prefer a blender over a food processor. They take up less room in the kitchen and it only feels like it takes two minutes to clean afterwards. I use them in my air fryer fried green tomatoes to blend my coating.
- Start your production line. Beat an egg in a small bowl. Add the oat flour, salt, pepper and paprika to a second bowl and mix well.
- In the blender add to it ½ of the rolled oats and blend until nearly at oat flour but not quite. Add this to the 3rd bowl along with the rest of the rolled oats and the oat bran.
- Slice the green tomatoes into medium sized slices and discard the top and bottom. Dry the slices so that they are not overly wet.
- Place the green tomatoes into the flour bowl, then the egg bowl and then into the breadcrumbs bowl.
- Then place them in the air fryer in sets of 4 slices.
- Cook for 6 minutes on each side in the air fryer grill pan for 6 minutes at 180c/360f.
- Serve warm.
You can of course us classic breadcrumbs and classic flour, but I love the light feeling of gluten free oats and flours. Our air fryer fried green tomatoes freeze well.
You can cook them from frozen by just adding an extra 2 minutes on each side onto the cooking time. If you want to get a big discount on your Bobs Red Mill products then I recommend you sign up for a Thrive Market account.
