Air Fryer Frozen Oven Chips. Delicious crispy McCain Oven Chips cooked in the air fryer. A fantastic low calorie way to have deep fried tasting chips for the calories of oven chips.
Air Fryer Frozen McCain Oven Chips
Growing up I always had my fair share of McCain oven chips. They would be paired with Birdseye Fish Fingers and served up with baked beans.
It was a heavily processed 90’s dinner for kids but was not very high in calories.
This was mainly down to the fact that McCain Oven Chips are very low in calorie and it’s a little oil with some basic white potatoes.
There are no foods in the ingredients list that you can’t pronounce and is great for feeding kids in a hurry.
But I have a big complaint about McCain frozen oven chips and that is that they tasted low in calories.
You had the oven chips for your dinner and just wished that they were deep fried. There was no crunch to your oven chips, and it left you craving food from the deep fat fryer.
Fast forward 25 years and I was shopping for some frozen food at my local Iceland here in Portugal.
I saw the McCain oven chips and thought it would be interesting to see how they turned out in the air fryer and if it was any better than what you get baked in the oven.
Why Air Fryer Frozen McCain Oven Chips?
When my frozen McCain Oven Chips were cooking for the first time in the air fryer, I was full of anticipation. I wanted to know what they would be like, if they were something I would eat regularly and most of all whether or not they would taste naughty.
Would they taste as good as deep-fried chips, or would they still shout out OVEN BAKED?
As it turned out the McCain Oven Chips tasted AMAZING and you couldn’t tell the difference between these oven chips and chips from a restaurant that have been deep fried.
They were so good, that I couldn’t wait for the final photo and as you can see, they have reduced in size by a LOT:

The ingredients for McCain Oven Chips are just a small amount of sunflower oil and white potatoes, so no worse than any other portion of chips that you cook in the air fryer, but no prep to do on your end.
How To Cook Air Fryer Frozen Oven Chips?
Now this is the best bit. There is absolutely ZERO prep in cooking frozen oven chips in the air fryer. You simply break open the bag and place them in the air fryer.
Cooked from frozen they only take 10 minutes and are so yummy afterwards. Then serve them with your favourite mayonnaise or ketchup. Or for a bit of 90’s nostalgia why not serve them up with my air fryer fish sticks?
