Welcome to my homemade must try Air Fryer Curly Fries recipe.
I am a huge fan of fries and can never get enough of them. Though growing up they were never healthy, they never involved a fantastic kitchen gadget like an Air Fryer or an even better kitchen gadget like a Spiralizer.
They were ALWAYS deep fried and tasted amazing.
I would go to the fish and chip shop (as it was cheaper than fast food establishments) and enjoy chips with scraps (the spare batter bites from the fish) and then there would be some onion gravy on top. They were absolutely delicious and when I was growing up I could have them for just £1.20 including a bread bun and a little bottle of fizzy drink.
I used to also love using my parents’ commercial fat fryer. They would be out and I would at home wanting something to eat. There would always be a large potato in the bottom of the fridge and I would peel it and make myself some delicious fries. I would then have them with some tomato ketchup like most teenagers would.
But my best ever fries moment was on holiday with my Dad in Belgium. You would visit a café there and it was always free refills on the fries. Therefore if you ate them all they would automatically come back and refill your chip basket with some more. They would serve them with the most delicious and the biggest portion of homemade mayonnaise and I would be in food heaven.
But none of these were healthy and they were as far from healthy as I could get. When you grow up in the 90’s these traditions were starting to stop in the favour of frozen fries. The idea that you oven baked instead of fried and I thought they tasted disgusting. Those plain fries that nobody wanted but we had forced on us.
But the curly fries were something else and some delicious and I have not had curly fries for years. So when I was shredding potatoes with my new Spiralizer and they came out in the exact shape (as I was experimenting with it) it felt like I had been transported back to the 90’s but with a healthier Air Fryer alternative.
With hardly any oil used you can soon make these the treat of the moment!

- Peel your potatoes and using your spiralizer make them into the shape of curly fries.
- In a bowl mix together the olive oil, coconut oil and potatoes so that they are all evenly coated.
- Place them in the Air Fryer and cook for 15 minutes on 180c.
- Coat with salt and pepper then serve with homemade tomato ketchup.
You can use whichever potatoes you like, they don’t have to be white potatoes. We like using sweet potatoes the most and find that as long as the potato is nice and stiff for the spiralizer or that its too small like a new potato then you can use any type.
Vegetable Spaghetti Maker & Spiralizer
We used the Vegetable Spaghetti Maker & Spiralizer to make these curly fries. If you have not tried a vegetable spaghetti maker before then they are a spiralizer that will quickly turn your vegetables into easy to cook noodles.
When we tested this particular vegetable spaghetti maker we found that it did an excellent job. Though from our own experience we have found that soft vegetables are much easier to do as hard ones, because they don’t require as much effort to cut up. So if you are new to spiralizing start off with some courgette and gradually progress to potatoes.
We personally loved the spaghetti maker and our only complaint is the recipe book as it lacks pictures and when you are starting out in spiralizing you want something visual to help you out.
In terms of getting yourself one of these brilliant spaghetti makers (or exploring the rest of their range) you can explore more by clicking here. If I were to do it again and/or if I were to currently recommend a good quality spaghetti maker and spiralizer to you, I would say CHOOSE THIS ONE.
