Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta is a creamy Italian pasta dish made with dried pasta shells, plenty of leftovers from dinner the night before and a delicious cream cheese tomato sauce. This Instant Pot creamy tomato sauce is ideal for families as well as Instant Pot Beginners.
Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta
Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta is one of my favourite pasta recipes and I am such a pasta addict. When I think about a lot of my childhood favourite meals it will often involve pasta.
Of course, nothing beats macaroni cheese does it? Or what about lasagne or carbonara? But I had it better than most.
My childhood home that I had from the age of 7 through to leaving home at 16 had a pizza restaurant at the end of the street.
It was called Pavarotti’s and had delicious homemade garlic bread that you could watch being cooked. It also had delicious calzones that I always shared with my mum.
But one thing I did was waste way too much food, as it was before it was popular to ask to take your leftovers home with you.
Sadly, Pavarotti’s closed just as I hit my 20’s and was replaced with a Chinese buffet. On my recent visit to my old childhood town I was surprised to see that it is now home to Hawaiian food.
Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta With Leftovers
Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta is another of my dream leftover meals that I am hooked on.
Anyone that knows me well, knows that I am obsessed with leftovers and getting as many meals as I can, and the Instant Pot does a great job helping me to achieve this.
For example, I love cooking Instant Pot Potato Corn Chowder and what I will do is make it for lunch and then what is leftover in the Instant Pot, will be blended into a sauce to go with some pasta or made into Instant Pot Creamed Corn, depending on how much of it I have left.
It is also a great way of being lazy in the kitchen with your Instant Pot. You have made the effort with your lunch, so you can get two meals out of one, come the evening time.
This is exactly what I am achieving here today with my creamy tomato pasta. I am using medium sized pasta shells, but the best bit is that the delicious creamy tomato pasta is made from what I call ugly leftovers.
Let me introduce you to my ugly leftovers. No fancy food photography here, just what you would expect to see in an average kitchen with average leftovers.
It was just a quick photo that I look as I was quickly prepping lunch.
#1 Leftover Zucchini Bolognese
This was the average Bolognese that had been cooked with extra zucchini to make the meal stretch further and this is what we had spare in a pan in the fridge that needed using up.
If you’re making a new Bolognese, then you can pour this one into it once the other food is cooked, cook it on sauté in the Instant Pot and you have a much bigger meal.
#2 Leftover Frozen Vegetable Soup
I had made vegetable soup in the Instant Pot with some spare frozen vegetables that I wanted to use up. Nothing fancy just delicious veggies in a creamy sauce.
Combine these two leftovers together and you have enough food with the extra add ins to make a delicious family meal.
In fact, it made so much for us did our Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta that we had some spare that we served cold for lunch the day after.
If you want to spend less on groceries it doesn’t get any better, than eating your delicious leftovers.
I also recommend having a 2nd inner pot for your Instant Pot that way you can have a place for your leftovers so that you can save on washing up. You can also get a sealing lid for them to stop them smelling out your fridge.
My kids particularly love this Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta and here is Sofia’s Peppa plate ready for tucking in:
Cooking Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta Without Leftovers
I get it. Not everyone will have two pans of food that needs using up, so what should you do instead?
Instead of spare Bolognese you could use any type of leftover mince. Imagine some old lasagne, some old cottage pie, some old shepherd’s pie or any other mince rich food.
Instead of using leftover vegetable soup any vegetable stock or cheese sauce will do the trick. Or one of my other favourites is to mix together cream cheese with tinned tomatoes. This too will give you a similar texture.
Or you could also use any other vegetable soup. Your homemade mushroom soup is fantastic for this. Or you could try my Instant Pot Mushroom Soup recipe.
How To Cook Creamy Tomato Pasta In The Instant Pot?
Cooking Creamy Tomato Pasta in the Instant Pot is so, so easy. It is what I call an Instant Pot dump meal.
The main ingredients are added to the Instant Pot and cooked for 7 minutes on manual pressure.
Afterwards and without the need for natural pressure release the rest of the ingredients are added and with the help of the sauté setting the Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta is DONE.
It really is that SIMPLE to make creamy tomato pasta in the Instant Pot.
The ingredients in our creamy tomato pasta are ingredients that most of us have in our fridge and pantry:
Even better if you are vegetarian it is easy to keep as a vegetarian dish. Instead of adding our meaty Bolognese at the end you could add a leftover vegetarian chili, beans or whatever you prefer.

Our Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta is not our first pasta dish in the Instant Pot and I doubt it will be the last. Below you will find even more Instant Pot Pasta Recipes from our blog.
Instant Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta
- Place into the Instant Pot inner pot, your pasta shells, tinned tomatoes, garlic puree, seasonings and 800ml of warm water.
- Stir it so that all the pasta is well coated by the tinned tomatoes and water.
- Place the lid on the Instant Pot, set the valve to sealing and cook for 7 minutes on manual pressure.
- Place your vegetable soup into a blender and blend so that you have a smooth creamy sauce to add to your Instant Pot.
- When the Instant Pot is done manually release pressure and give it a stir. Most of the water will have been soaked up by the pasta so it won’t need draining.
- Put the Instant Pot on sauté.
- Add in your leftover blended vegetable soup and your leftover Bolognese.
- Also stir in the 2 types of cheese and the Greek yoghurt.
- Carry on cooking it until the Bolognese is piping hot and the cheese has melted, and you have that amazing creamy tomato sauce for your pasta.
- 1Taste it and if you feel it needs more basil then add a little more. Or if its too thin a sauce add in extra cream cheese.
Can’t make it now? Then pin it for later!
