Today as this blog post goes live we will be celebrating a whole 9 years living in the Algarve in Southern Portugal. We wont be around as this post goes live as we have a family tradition that on this very special day that we hit the beach. So our love from the beach!
There is not a day that goes by when we don’t think about how much we love living here and the culture of the country we now call home.
We escaped the bad weather, the high cost of living and the high crime of the north of England nine years ago today and we feel so blessed.
We love the beautiful sunshine, the low cost of living and the low crime rates. Though out of everything we get most excited over the food. I mean who doesn’t just adore Mediterranean foods? They are nutritious yet they taste so good that you forget they are healthy for you.
Take these Nandos Chicken Wings. Made with the wholesome Piri Piri Chicken marinade they are perfect for families that want something special yet simple and want to spend time with their families rather than all night in the kitchen.
You soak them overnight in the Nandos marinade and then place them straight into the Airfryer the next day when you want to eat them.
I actually use the baking pan that you can get as an accessory for the Airfryer. Just because it has no holes in it, has a handle for carrying it with, makes it great for Airfrtyer to dinner table cooking experience. You can then serve it up on your dinner table with the spare marinade that can then form as a dipping sauce.
Also if you are following the Whole 30 or Paleo and want something good to serve your friends without making them feel like you have forced them on a diet, then this is the dish of your dreams.
Plus everyone loves a good chicken wings recipe!
Then you could also serve them up with our Nandos whole chicken along with a salad and your guests would be very impressed.
But first if you have only ever known spicy chicken wings to be buffalo flavoured then you are in for a treat when you try out Nandos. They are the next big thing to hit the globe, as they have grown a lot in recent years around the world.
But if you haven’t heard of them then read on:
What Is Nandos?
Nandos is an international food chain specialising in barbecued chicken. Its chicken is cooked with the famous Peri Peri marinade. It originated in South Africa by a Portuguese born man by the name of Fernando, hence its famous name.
The chicken is also served in quarters, halves and wholes just like it is in Portugal.
It also serves a range of other dishes including burgers, salads, wings and wraps.
It has a big worldwide fan base with outlets in Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe & North America.
The Nandos brand is constantly growing as people love the spicy flavours alongside authentic African/Portuguese cuisine.

Nandos Chicken Wings
- Place your chicken wings onto a large piece of silver foil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper from above (from shoulder length) so that they are well covered.
- Add to them a quarter of your marinade and mix well so that all the chicken is well covered.
- Place the rest of your marinade into a big serving dish ready for the next day.
- Seal up the silver foil and fridge overnight.
- The next day remove the chicken wings from the silver foil and place them inside the baking pan inside the Airfryer.
- Cook for 20 minutes on 180c/356f and then serve with your spare marinade as dipping sauce.
I have suggested that you use 275ml of homemade Nandos marinade. This is basically half of my recipe and is enough for cooking with and some extra for dipping with.
My chicken wings packs are about 1 kilo (2.2 pounds) and has 12 medium sized chicken wings in the pack.
The dipping sauce (because tomato sauce is within the marinade) will be like the chilled Spanish tapas sauce and you will love it for dunking your chicken wings.
You can also freeze any leftover marinade for future Nando home meals.
As sizes of your chicken wings can vary from pack to pack, they were cooked at 18 minutes but we gave them a shake and another 2 minutes to give allowances for the bigger ones, as it is important that your chicken is well cooked.
