Slow Cooker Turkey Legs are a must try in your Slow Cooker (crockpot). Moist, crispy, flavoursome and perfect for sharing.
These Slow Cooker Turkey Legs came about as part of my obsession for saving money on grocery shopping and getting Dominic to constantly cut up my poultry for me.
Like he has done for me below:
I love buying a lot of whole turkeys after Christmas when they are discounted down. Last Christmas I can’t remember how many I bought, but it must have been at least 5 of them. I could see the shock horror look on Dominics face as to how many turkeys I had in my hands.
It is nice to have a whole turkey outside of Thanksgiving and Christmas whole, but the problem you have there, is that you have a LOT of turkey that you have to eat in X amount of time.
But if you separate them into turkey legs, turkey wings and turkey crowns then you can freeze them separately and then cook them as you need them.
Remember that turkey legs are much bigger than chicken legs and that one turkey leg can easily feed four of you for lunch or dinner.
With the turkey crown you know that you can cook it and it is enough to feed at least 8 people and that you can get a few leftover turkey meals without feeling like you’re overdosing on turkey.
The turkeys that we bought last Christmas worked out at 5€ each and if you divide this down then that is about 1€ for the legs. Feed four people on the turkey legs and its 0,25€ a meal.
We often do similar with chickens. We get whole chickens on clearance and then cook them in the air fryer as separate pieces of chicken for various meals.
Slow Cooker Turkey Legs
If you just want a quick dump and go meal, then slow cooker turkey legs tick all the boxes. Not only is it healthy for you, but it minimum preparation time too. You can just serve your turkey legs over a salad, with potatoes or eat them as they are.
In our Slow Cooker Turkey Legs, we have made a soy sauce and honey marinade and allowed the turkey legs to slowly cook for them to be the most tender turkey legs that you have ever tried.
Don’t forget to get to the clearance at your supermarket after Thanksgiving/Christmas and get yourself some cheap whole turkeys too.#SlowCooker #Turkey Legs @recipe_thisClick To Tweet
- On a clean chopping board, peel and dice your onion and place it into the slow cooker.
- Add the marinade ingredients to the slow cooker and mix it in with the onion.
- Smother the skin parts of the turkey legs into the marinade.
- Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high for 4 hours.
You can swap honey for balsamic vinegar or maple syrup, if that’s more your thing. You can also cook your slow cooker turkey legs on low for 8 hours instead of high.
